                libmalloc's malloc()?

  Under versions of IRIX prior to 5.x, malloc(3X) -- the malloc in
  libmalloc -- was preferable to the libc malloc, or malloc(3C).
  However, in IRIX 5.x and above, the libc malloc is faster and is
  probably preferable.
