Q&A: I need Fort Lauderdale Wind Data.

Mon 23 Jun 1997 10:26AM EDT

when I try to get daily wind speed and temp. data for Fort Lauderdale over the last couple of years the program supplies a plot but with no lines on it. What is the extend of the data source i.e. how recent ?

Also how does one change the y-axis or should it be automatic ?

Fort Lauderdale currently has missing data records. I went back to the NOAA daily data and looked for nearby stations. In order to attain data similer to that of Fort Lauderdale, I recorded the latitude and longitude of Fort Lauderdale, then typed in a range of one (1) degree north, south, east, and west of the Fort Lauderdale station. (right) A map was produced of the area, and the stations surrounding Fort Lauderdale. (At first stations are given simply by black dots. To label the dots with the station names, change the menu which starts no labels located to the right of the map to Name, then click on the redraw button.)

On the map to the right all of the station names within a 2 degree radius of the Fort Lauderdale station appeared. The FT Lauderdale/Holly station is the nearest station that has discernable data.

NOAA NCDC DAILY STATION mean Wind Speed (knots)
Fort Lauderdale/Holly

(right) The mean wind speed data plot to the right is of the Fort Lauderdale/Holly station, which is located south of the Fort Lauderdale station.

To answer the last part of your question, the Y axis changes automatically, as the range of the variable changes. You also have the option of changing the limits using the two boxes below the graph.
