A subset of this archive are the ECMWF/TOGA Basic Level III Data Sets, consisting of a Surface and an Upper-Air Data Set. These data contain uninitialized analysis values interpolated to a 2.5 degree by 2.5 degree regular latitude/Longitude grid for 00 and 12 UTC.
The Surface Data Set contains surface pressure, surface temperature, MSL pressure, u and v-components of wind at 10m, temperature at 2m, dew point at 2m, surface geopotential and land-sea mask.
The Upper-Air Data Set contains geopotential, temperature, u and v-components of horizontal wind, vertical velocity and relative humidity on 14 standard pressure levels.
In accordance with the International Implementation Plan of TOGA, ECMWF wishes to make these data sets available to the World Data Centers in order to facilitate a wider distribution of the data. However, ECMWF expects that the data are only made available to individual users. The World Data Center should ensure that the data recipients do not undertake any further distribution. Also the transfer of the data at the World Data Center to other media such as CD-ROM for mass distribution should not be undertaken without seeking ECMWF's agreement first.
The data are written onto 9-track, unlabelled magnetic tapes, with odd parity, fixed block length and 6250 bpi density. Further details will be enclosed with the tapes. Each tape contains the data of both data sets for one month. Updates of the data sets will be sent quarterly.
