Meteorological Observations and Climate Data from Moscow, Russia (1810-1937)

BRIEF

The climate data resides in 1 book, 'Meteoroligische Beobachtungen in Moskau im Jahre' (C/db L685) written in German. The data contained in this book are daily and monthly surface climatic data for Moscow, Russia from 1900 to 1909. Daily variables for each month of the period incorporated in these data are the following: mean maximum and minimum pressure, and mean and mean amplitude variation of humidity. Monthly parameters for each month contained in these data are: mean pressure, cloudiness, winds, snow, air and snow-level temperature, temperature at different depths, sunshine hours and evaporation; mean maximum and minimum air, soil, and snow level depth temperature and solar radiation; absolute maximum and minimum pressure, temperature, humidity, and 24 hour precipitation maximum; mean maximum and minimum temperature, humidity, cloudiness, and precipitation; number of days of frost, clear skies, cloudy skies, and partly cloudy skies, precipitation, precipitation of a certain intensity, snow, hail, graupel, fog, haze, dew, ice, lightning, thunderstorms, strong and calm winds, and rainbows; wind direction frequency; mean amplitude variation of the temperature; amplitude mean of the temperature; and maximum and minimum amplitude of the pressure, temperature, and humidity. Monthly variables averaged over the period include: absolute maximum and minimum pressure; number of clear, cloudy, and cloudless days; and maximum and minimum amplitude of the pressure.

The hourly observations and additional climate data resides in 4 books, 'Observations Meteorolgiques Faites a l'Observatoire De L'Universite Imperiale de Moscou' (C/db Ao-M) written in Russian and French; 'Meteorolgische Beobachtungen ausgefuhrt am Meteorologischen Observatorium der Landwirthschaftlichen Academie zu Moskau' (C/db Ao-Ml) written in German and English; 'Bulletin de l'Observatoire Actimometrique et Meteorologique de Moscou' (C/db Ao-Mo) written in Russian and French; and 'Observations Faites a la Observatoire Meteorologique De L'Intitut Agronomique De Moscou' (C/db Ao-Ma) written in Russian and English.

The data contained in these books are hourly surface observations and daily and monthly surface climatic data for the period 1810 to 1911 and 1935 to 1937. Parameters included in the hourly observations are pressure, air, soil, and snow surface temperature, humidity, cloudiness, wind direction and speed, evaporation, vapor pressure, and solar radiation. Daily variables for each month incorporated in these data are the following: mean pressure, air and soil temperature, humidity, cloudiness, and vapor pressure; maximum and minimum pressure, air and ground temperature, and humidity; precipitation, evaporation, and sunshine totals; cloud speed and direction; snow cover; ozone; duration of insolation; diffuse radiation; and duration of precipitation. Monthly parameters contained in these data for each month are: mean temperature, pressure, humidity, and wind speed and direction; absolute maximum and minimum pressure, temperature, humidity, and 24 hour precipitation amounts; number of days of maximum and minimum temperature <0, clear skies, cloudy skies, precipitation, thunder, sleet, snow, fog, and strong winds; and wind frequency. Monthly variables averaged over the period are mean air temperature and temperature variation. In addition, dates of earliest plant blooms are given.

These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection held by the NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in this collection dates back to the 18th century for daily, monthly, seasonal, and annual tabular summaries, and the 19th century for weather maps. These data are the result of foreign exchange agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983.
